Overview
Ahmed Barakat is a seasoned legal professional and the Founder and Managing Partner of Barakat Law Firm, bringing nearly two decades of experience spanning private practice, prosecution, and the judiciary. His career is distinguished by deep expertise in white-collar crime, corporate and commercial law, and complex dispute resolution, positioning him as a trusted advisor to individuals, businesses, and institutions across the MENA region.
Ahmed began his legal career in 2007 as a corporate lawyer at one of Egypt’s leading law firms, advising clients on commercial and corporate matters. He then joined the Egyptian Prosecution Authority, where he served for six years and led investigations into white- and blue-collar crimes, tax evasion, fraud, breach of trust, and serious criminal offenses. During this period, he investigated more than 1,200 cases and reviewed over 33,000 police reports, gaining unparalleled insight into criminal investigations and prosecutorial strategy.
In 2015, Ahmed was appointed as a Chief Judge in appellate circuits of the North Sinai and New Cairo Courts. Specializing in financial crimes, tax and customs evasion, real estate disputes, and breaches of trust, he contributed to the issuance of over 40,000 judgments, further strengthening his command of procedural and substantive law.
After resigning from the judiciary in 2021, Ahmed returned to private practice as a Partner at a prominent Egyptian law firm, advising clients across the MENA region on corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, investments, and venture capital transactions. In June 2023, he founded Barakat Law Firm, where he now leads a dynamic, entrepreneurial practice supporting startups, SMEs, and venture capital funds—from incorporation through growth, investment, and IPO.
Alongside his corporate practice, Ahmed is highly regarded for his white-collar crime defense, leveraging his unique background as a former prosecutor and judge to provide strategic, discreet, and effective representation in complex financial and regulatory matters. Ahmed holds an LLB from Ain Shams University (English Division) and a Master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University (2018). He is fluent in Arabic and English, an active member of the Egyptian Bar Association, and a candidate for admission to the New York Bar.
